The ÆL is an armature for creative research projects that operate as acts of creative occupation. Sites, assemblages and situations are approached as complex, socio-political and technological networks, or, in other words, ecologies.
Acts of occupation take the form of creative modifications or modulations of any given set of conditions – aimed at revealing potential and new ways of re-approaching the relevant ecology.
Via these active modulations, there is a particular interest in the affective power and agency of constructed environments and systems: architectures that silently structure situations, profoundly inflecting behaviour and relations.
The ÆL is structured through projects, each involving different constellations of people, materials, places and events. Researchers involved predominantly work across the fields of architecture, interior design, fashion, landscape architecture, industrial design, creative writing, film-making and art practice.
The ÆL has a widely cast local and international network and is based at RMIT University in the School of Architecture and Design, where it is part of the d___lab research centre.
A/Prof Pia Ednie-Brown is the instigator and caretaker of this project-collective.
If you have a project or proposal that you would like to discuss with the ÆL, please contact us.
